Earth Day! :)

Good evening, people! :) I have some news to tell you. A simple idea that almost changed my entire view on LIFE.
So, there I was, all innocent and such, on my way to school. I was in the passenger seat next to my dad, when he turns on Fox News on the radio, or something like that. This man was ranting about Earth Day, and how it's pointless. I was almost speechless! What kind of fool DOESN'T care about our beatiful planet?! However, as I listened to the broadcast, I quickly picked up on what he really was trying to say.
(I'm paraphrasing here, so don't shoot me if I screw it up, haha.) He was basically saying Earth Day is an absolutely pointless, that's right, pointless attempt to "preserve our planet." If global warming wasn't supposed to happen, it wouldn't. If certain species weren't supposed to become extinct, they wouldn't! Even with all of our attempts to keep the animals on the planet alive, look at all the species that were once abundant on the Earth!
Fact: 95% of all species of animals who ever lived on the Earth are now extinct.
So that means, even with our futile campaigns, and cute slogans, and non-profit organizations to Save The Whales, or Save The Snails, they have still been dissapearing! It's supposed to happen, or else it wouldn't be going on! I mean, yeah, it probably helps a lot to create wildlife preserves and such, but you and I should know that it isn't possible to save every living species currently living on the planet.
A few minutes into this guy's rant, I suddenly turned my back toward his "it happens for a reason" attitude. He started attacking all the "animal-crazy, tree-hugging, recycling, bearded hippies." I will have you know, my science teacher is one of those hippies! Well, okay, maybe not a legit hippie. But he is crazy for the enviroment, he is a self-titled "bird nerd," he MAKES us recycle in his class, and we had a big celebration on Earth Day. He even has a pretty cool beard :)
Those types of people are not bad, or stupid. They just want to make a difference. They want to help out in any way they can.
